West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday directed all departmental secretaries to submit a report within seven days on whether government welfare schemes are reaching people and whether there are any instances of land encroachment in the state. At a high-level agricultural marketing meeting held at Nabanna, she instructed officials to gather block-level data and report on the status of implementation. “Find out if the state’s schemes are reaching people, and ensure no land is being encroached. I need a report in seven days,” she said.
Banerjee also asked Women and Child Development Secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh to personally investigate complaints regarding departmental homes. She directed all secretaries not to obstruct any pending transfers and emphasized the need for direct field inspections. Expressing dissatisfaction with bureaucratic delays, she said red-tapism will not be tolerated. She instructed that no unauthorized monetary collection be allowed in markets and warned of action if any irregularities are reported after her instructions.
The Chief Minister ordered surprise inspections in markets, and strict surveillance at border areas and railway stations to prevent the entry of illegal arms into the state. She assigned Firhad Hakim to hold meetings concerning municipal markets and instructed all task forces to prevent black-marketing and middlemen operations. Officials were also told to monitor the supply and pricing of fish, chicken, and essential food items, and ensure that the state’s cold storage infrastructure is utilized properly.
